Work experience is an excellent opportunity for our young people to experience first-hand the world of work and allows them to see what is really involved in their potential future career.
Work Experience is available to all S4 to S6 pupils. S4 pupils sitting mainly National 5 exams will be given time in June to complete a week’s placement if they wish, while those pupils sitting mainly National 4’s are encouraged to find a week’s placement in May. We have a number of S5 and S6 pupils who will either complete a week’s long placement or will use a few of their study periods to complete a Work Experience Placement each week for the academic year. For Christmas Leavers we also have a number of pupils who carry out an Extended Work Experience Placement instead of being in school.
We encourage pupils to find their own Work Experience placements. Before pupils are allowed out of school on any placement, confirmation must be given, in the form of a letter or email, by the Employer and the Parent/Carer. Dumfries and Galloway Council must also carry out a rigorous Risk Assessment. This process can take up to 8 weeks.

“My Work Experience Placement has made me more confident and has given me a real insight in what a career in child care would be like.”
