LGBTQIA at

Lockerbie Academy

At Lockerbie Academy we recognise that school should be a safe place for all members of our school community to be themselves and a place where they feel valued, listened to and respected.

We have embarked on our journey towards achieving the LGBT Youth Scotland Silver Charter Award and aim to achieve this in 2025. The Charter provides a clear statement that ensures equality and diversity is recognised and celebrated within the school. We have already taken a number of steps towards inclusivity with all members of staff completing LGBT Awareness Training and celebration of events such as LGBT History Month and Purple Friday.

Our school’s LGBT Charter Group is made up of pupils and staff who meet once a term to discuss and review progress towards achieving the Silver Charter Award.

Lockerbie Academy is committed to ensuring that all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people experience a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment. We are reviewing our policies and practices including legislation obligations in relation to LGBT equality.
