Assessments for Free School Meals and School Clothing Grants (FSM-SCG) have now begun by the Revenue and Benefits Team.

Parents/guardians whose household meets the below noted criteria, should begin receiving their SCG payment for their child or children from the week commencing Monday 9^th June 2025:

• You are in receipt of means tested Council Tax Reduction
• You meet the eligibility criteria (noted below)
• Your child was assessed as entitled to Free School Meals and School Clothing Grants as of 2^nd June 2025
• Your child’s will be attending P1 through S5, but only where their date of birth is after 30^th September 2009

Please note, we cannot make payments of School Clothing Grants for children moving into S5 or S6 born before 1^st October 2009, until their school has confirmed their attendance after they have returned from the summer break.

If parents meet the above criteria, we will send notification of the awards that have been made for child/children. If no notification or payment by 16^th June 2025, it is likely that parents will have to reapply.

The eligibility criteria for FSM-SCG from 1^st April 2025 are:

• Your child must be registered as attending a Dumfries and Galloway Council school, and
• You are in receipt of:
  • Income support
  • Income-based Job Seeker's Allowance
  • Income-based Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Universal Credit (where their monthly earned income is not more than £850)
  •  

Applying for FSM-SCGs is quick and easy and can be done in around five minutes online via our website at www.dumgal.gov.uk/schoolmeals.
