Course Overview

In S1 social studies, young people develop their understanding of the world by learning about other people and their values, in different times, places and circumstances; they also develop their understanding of their environment and of how it has been shaped. Pupils are taught three subjects- geography, history and modern studies.

Geography units:

  • Where in The World
  • Rainforests

History units:

  • Ancient civilisations – Celts and Romans
  • Scottish Wars of Independence

Modern Studies units:

  • A study of a democracy - Scotland, compared to a dictatorship - North Korea
