S3 Music Technology Course
Music Technology in Practice
Learners in S3 will begin to fully develop their knowledge and understanding of equipment, DAWs, effects and processes as they embark on a series of mini-projects based on the National 4/5 Music Technology Course Standards.
Learners will be given the chance to earn National 4 Music Technology Units throughout the year by completing at least two of the projects to the required standards.
These mini-projects are:
- MIDI Interface Creation
- Podcasting/Radio Broadcast
- Live Sound in Action (Halloween Haunted House)
- Film Foley (The Snowman - Group Project)
- Multi-tracked Music
- Audiobooks
Learners who show commitment, determination and ability can then opt to complete a final project to contribute toward their National 4 AVU.

Understanding 20th & 21st Century Music
As part of the Music Technology course, Learners will learn to research and enhance their knowledge of music terms and genres. Through studying the National 3/4 genres and styles, Learners will better understand the cultural and societal impacts of these styles of music, as well as the key inovators, technologies and ebents which made them possible.
Learners will also delve deeper in to sound editing using effects and processes to enhance and shape audio files. In S3 this will mainly focus around the use of EQ, Reverb, Delay and Compression, with the use of some Automation and MIDI manipulation.
Finally learners will explore the basics of music theory. This will help them to better understand the instruments and sounds they are working with, and how to better structure and develop their musicality.
