Pupils at Lockerbie Academy have been fundraising for over 10 years now to help our African Link school in Thawale in Malawi.
Our recent efforts have focused on trying to fund students who have passed scholarship exams to progress through their 4-year secondary school course. These students have no means to fund themselves and our target is to pay for the education of a total of 72 of them each year through the different stages of their course.
In order to achieve our aim, we need to raise around £2,000 each year through the efforts of our pupils, their families and the wider community. We achieved this last session partly due to a very successful coffee morning held in Lockerbie Town Hall.
This year our fundraising efforts have been greatly hampered by the pandemic and we are desperately trying out new approaches, such as this Go Fund Me campaign, to try to achieve our target before the end of term in a few weeks' time.
We realise that this is a difficult time for so many people in our own country, but if you can spare any money to make a donation to help these young people in one of the world’s poorest countries receive an education it would be greatly appreciated.
The African Link Committee at Lockerbie Academy is currently on a mission to raise £2,000 for the Lockerbie Academy Scholarship Programme. This programme is currently funding the secondary education of over 60 pupils in Malawi. Please follow the link below to the Go Fund Me Page if you would like to make a donation. Thank you - or as they say in Malawi – Zikomo!
